About Us
2007 will be remembered as the year that redefined the music industry in every aspect.Â
Whilst major labels and high street music chains struggled, Independent Music went from strength to strength. Unsigned bands reached the UK Top 40 charts for the first time ever and artists, big and small, took their career into their own hands and redefined ‘Independent Music’.Â
This is all began in January 2007 when Birmingham-based music company Ditto Music utilized new chart rules and put the first unsigned band into the charts. This made worldwide news and put Birmingham back on the map again. Over the next 10 months, six more unsigned bands invaded the territory the major labels had held as their playground for so many years. At last Independent Music had a voice. Ditto artists even dominated the Irish charts, holding Top 40 positions for 9 consecutive weeks across the summer. All artists went on to big and better things and have praised Ditto’s consultancy, licensing and distribution services.
One artist signed to Warner Bros for £1,700,000 on a five album deal before his single was even released, due to Ditto’s work with him. Singer/songwriter Doug Walker was due to release a single through Ditto Music, The track got picked up (literally) by Chris Moyles at Radio One and was played within the hour.  Doug acquired a manager the next day and after touring with the likes of Coventry’s ‘The Enemy’ he signed and is currently recording his debut album in London and New York. ‘Releasing my single through Ditto was the start; it wouldn’t have happened without you guys’, remarked Doug just before inking his dream record deal.
2008 heralds much to come as well. Ditto have their own new music show on SKY(186); they are sponsoring UK festivals, organizing showcases and events across the globe; launched Cue Tracks (www.cuetracks.net) which is set to revolutionise PR for new artists and loads more. Clients for 2008 include Roberta Flack, Fairport Convention and Paul Ryder (Happy Mondays) among others.
